2. What are the requirements in becoming an ESL teacher in Thailand?
To become an ESL Teacher you have to hold a degree in any area of study, have taken a TEFL Course, and have taken a Thai Culture Course.
3. Where are the TEFL Course locations and what’s the duration of TEFL course?
The duration for the course is 120 hours over 3 weeks.

6. What does an average day of TEFL studying consist of?
Classes generally begin at 08.30 and run until 16:00. When teaching practice is scheduled in week two, the hours of the day will be shorter. You will be provided with the exact schedule upon commencement of the course.
7. How many students on average are on a TEFL course at one time?
On average, we have around 25 students enrolled on our program. Students come from all over the world and they are typically between 22 and 50 years old.
8. What ages are the students and what are the class sizes who I’ll be doing my teaching practice with?
Students are between the ages of 4 – 18 yrs old. Class sizes are between 2 0- 40 students.
9. Can I bring my laptop?
Yes, you can. This will help you plan your lessons and studies.
10. Where can I access the Internet?
There is internet access in your accommodation and training locations.
11. What are the dates for the TEFL course?
Course dates are throughout the year. We do however recommend the dates for April and September as this is when the semesters begin and you have much more choice in what school you would like to work in and what area. You can also book a TEFL course for 2014 or 2015.

12. What is the cost of the TEFL course?
£888 or 1490USD. This can be paid either in full or a deposit of £300 or 300USDwith the remainder to be paid in full two weeks before the course commences

14. Once I have completed the TEFL course, what is the next step?
On completion of your TEFL course, you will be place into a Government or Private School who we have contracts with. This can take between 1 week to no longer than a month. So you need to be ready to teach at the drop of a hat.
15. What institute does my TEFL certificate come from and when do I receive this?
TEFL certificate are issued from the London Teacher Training College and you receive this no longer than 3 working days after completion of TEFL course.
The Job Market in Thailand
1. What is the job market in Thailand like at the moment and will I have trouble securing employment?
The job market in Thailand is always busy. Schools all over Thailand are looking for native or non-native English speakers all year round. If you are diligent and open to a variety of locations you will be able to secure work without any problem. A difficult time to be looking for work in Thailand is during the semesters, since all the schools will have a teacher appointed to teach their students. Nevertheless we have a lot of contacts in the Teaching Community.
2. What will Jobs Teaching Abroad do to help me secure employment after completion of the TEFL course?
On completion of your TEFL course, we will guarantee you a teaching job within 1 – 2 weeks.

Teaching in Thai Schools
1. What’s the salary ?
The salary for a full time teacher is 30,000THB a month, paid into your Thai bank account.
2. Are most positions contracted and is it important to have a contract?
Every teacher working with us will have a contract. The contract will help you secure a work permit and visa extension.
3. Do most schools provide accommodation for their teachers?
There are schools that do this but very rarely. For example, they will provide a room for you, either shared or single. Probably in an apartment with other teachers, and provide you with a monthly stipend. However, we don’t see this scenario often.
4. How many TEFL graduates actually find work in Thailand?
Getting an ESL job in Thailand is very straight forward and it depends on your level of determination. About 99.9% of TEFL graduates find employment.
5. Do schools provide any insurance?
Thai schools do not provide insurance. You can obtain insurance from your Thai bank or obtain in from your home country before you travel.
6. Do schools provide work permits?
Work Permits are provided to all of our teachers. We do all the documentation at our offices and send them to the Labor Office.
7. What is a typical teaching position like?
The students you will teach will either be 4 – 10 years old or 11 – 18 years old. Their level of English is quite basic. We will help you go through different teaching scenarios,during your TEFL teaching practice. We will make sure that you excel in your career as an ESL teacher.
8. Can I return to my home country and teach with my TEFL certificate or in another country other than Thailand?
Yes, you can. However, please find out more information about this question in your home country.

9. Whats the dress code within a School?
The following information is for every school throughout Thailand;
Males are expected to wear trousers, a long or short sleeved shirt and black/brown shoes. Facial hair to be properly trimmed and presentable. Hair should be short and presentable. Males with long hair may be expected to wear it pulled back. Not acceptable to wear are jeans, shorts, t-shirts, trainers, sandals, ear and facial piercings. All tattoos HAVE to be covered.
Females are expected to wear Skirts from and below the knee, blouse or shirt and shoes. Hair should be pulled back into a bun.Not acceptable are skirts above the knee or with a slit at the side revealing your legs. Low cut blouses or shirts, trainers, sandals, facial piercings. All tattoos HAVE to be covered.
The dress code within Thai Schools may seem strict at first, but appearances and first impressions are extremely important in Thailand. If you’re a teacher, you will be expected to dress accordingly and especially in a school. Teachers are given so much respect throughout Thailand, hence the need to dress properly .at all times.
Living in Thailand
1. What are the average living expenses in Thailand?
The cost of living in Thailand can be relatively cheap. You could easily live on 15,000 Baht a month.. take into consideration that a room in an apartment will cost between 5,000 – 6,000 a month including water and electricity and food you can buy for as little as 35 – 50 Baht. We have seen lot of teachers saving 100,000 Baht within their 1st year of teaching. But then again there are different ways on spending lots of money. You could travel, party etc. It all depends on the individual and their perspective towards saving money.
2. What do i do to find somewhere to live?
We offer you assistance in finding you housing if you work for Jobs Teaching Abroad. You can also refer to your peers at school as they would be your first point of contact and most of them would be very willing to help you out.
3. What do I do if I get sick in Thailand?
If you find yourself requiring medical attention there are hospitals, doctors surgeries, pharmacies, and dentists in all the major cities and in small towns.
4. What’s the public transportation system like in Thailand?
Thailand has an excellent transportation system. Almost all the public transport is air conditioned. The transport options are:
Motorbike Taxi- This will take you anywhere and will start from 30 baht up
Songtail – A modified truck carrying up to 20 passengers. These are on fixed routes and will start from 10 Baht
Tuk Tuk – Nearly the same as Songtail but will only fit about 8 passengers. This will take you anywhere and will start from 50 Baht up.
Bus – The are two types of buses in Thailand. You have the local bus which starts from 5 Baht up and then the long distance bus (coach) that starts from 100 Baht up to 1,000 Baht from Hat Yai to Bangkok
Mini Van –A Mini Vans will take you to other provinces. From Hat Yai you can travel all around the Southern Part of Thailand and will cost from 50 Baht upwards to 500 Baht from Hat Yai to Phuket
Train – Trains have air condition and for low paying customers they have a fan. You can sleep on trains for long distance and they are relatively cheap too. Please visit a website for more information.
6. What’s the climate like?
Thailand is a tropical country and most of the year is humid and hot.
